SHILLONG, Jun 22: Congress legislator and spokesperson, Zenith M Sangma on Friday alleged that the National People’s Party (NPP) was poaching on its MLAs with the help of the BJP.
“The NPP was applying the same formula in Meghalaya which they had applied in Manipur on the advice and direction of the BJP,” Sangma alleged.
It may be mentioned that in Manipur, the NPP with four MLAs is supporting a BJP led government there.
Meanwhile, the Congress spokesperson said that there have been attempts to poach their MLAs of Congress.
However, Sangma said that the Congress was confident that it can shield its MLAs from such attempts even as he added that party was confident of its own legislators that it will not fall prey to poaching attempts.
When enquired on the resignation of Danggo, the Congress spokesperson said that such claims have to be verified first.
Sangma said that if Danggo had submitted his resignation letter, whether he did it on his own or he had sent someone else to hand over the letter.
“Everything has to be verified since the post of MLA is an elected one and any Tom, Dick and Harry cannot just go and submit the resignation,” the Congress spokesperson said.
Meanwhile, in a statement sent on Friday, the Meghalaya Assembly Speaker, Dr Donkupar Roy has accepted the resignation of Danggo as the MLA of Ranikor constituency.
