Shillong, Feb 14: The workers of the Mawryngkneng Block Congress Committee (MBCC) has urged the family members of late legislator David Nongrum to reconsider the decision that none from the family would contest the bye-election.
Banshanlang Lawai, MBCC, president said that on February 13 the members met, to discuss the matter and decided to impress upon Charles Pyngrope, the father of Late Nongrum that someone from the family should contest the bye-election.
Lawai said that the people of Mawryngkneng constituency has supported the family since Pyngrope won the election in 2003 which he represented for two terms till 2013.
In 2013, Late Nongrum contested from Mawryngkneng constituency and was it’s MLA for two term until his demise on February 2 this year.
When asked, Lawai said, “He (Charles Pyngrope) has not given us any assurance so far even though the decision would be a tough one. But we will wait for a clear answer from the family whether they are willing to contest from the family.”
He, however added that the MBCC is united and will ensure that any candidate put up by the Congress wins the bye-election.
