SHILLONG, Nov 10: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has expressed confidence that the ruling Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government will sail through the no confidence motion tabled by the opposition Congress.
“We are absolutely confident. There are no issues and the opposition has brought out this no confidence but there were many other forms in which they could have mention the issues concerning them,” Sangma said after chairing a meeting of the MDA today.
The Chief Minister informed that the MDA has issued a whip to all the members of the ruling alliance to be present when the no confidence motion is taken up on Wednesday.
Sangma also said that some of the ministers who had tested positive have tested negative a week back, but since they were feeling
The thing is that some of our ministers had tested positive and now one or two of them have tested negative, one or two of them have tested negative a week back but they were weak so they were not coming.
“…but tomorrow being an important day they have all been asked to attend and inspite of their health condition they will be attending tomorrow’s,” he added.
On the numbers being stacked against them, leader of Opposition, Dr. Mukul Sangma said that as far as the no confidence motion is concerned the ultimate end result will have to be left to be seen.
“We cannot assume and presume and predict how the house will behave. We cannot take the house for granted so therefore only when the issues are placed before the house and members deliberate then we will see how ultimate the end results unfolds. We cannot predict how the house will behave,” Dr. Sangma said.
The opposition leader also said that they have made it abundantly clear that their role is to protect the interest of the State, when it is being compromised by the government of the day and they should respond to the call of duty.
The opposition Congress has 19 members in the house of 60.
