SHILLONG, Jun 6: Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma on Thursday said that the many programmes launched during the tenure of former Chief Minister, Dr Mukul Sangma had many “problems” even as he said that he will take up the issue at an “appropriate” time.
“There were lot of problems..whether you talk about the different missions…for the livestock and different organic missions,” Conrad said.
The Chief Minister was reacting to allegations of opposition leader, Dr Sangma that, the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government was facilitating illegal coal trade.
On the accusation of the Meghalaya leader of opposition, Conrad asked the Congress party to substantiate them.
“May be they are making statement since they have nothing to talk about right now. Let us substantiate and we will talk about it,” the Chief Minister said.
He also said that when the NGT ban on coal mining took place in 2014, the government of Meghalaya at that point and then Chief Minister (Dr Mukul Sangma) did nothing about it and simply left things unattended.
Conrad said that if he (Mukul) or his colleagues are pointing fingers at the MDA then they should first look at what the then Congress government did in those four years.
The Chief Minister claimed that it is the present MDA government along with the centre are working overtime to ensure that everything is streamlined.
“This clearly reflects the objective that we plan to address this issue. Therefore, the people who are pointing fingers at us must realise what they did in the last four years and I think I don’t have to talk about all the details,” Conrad added.
The Chief Minister added that the intention which the then Congress government had on the coal issue was not good and reiterated that it is the MDA Government which is ensuring everything falls in place.
