Shillong, Jun 18: The Meghalaya government on Friday decided to continue with the containment measures due to the high number of new Covid-19 cases in the state even as it has given the Deputy Commissioners to put curbs depending on the situation in their respective districts.
In a notification issued by the Home (Political) department, the order states that the number of Covid-19 cases in Meghalaya is still very high and there is significant spread in the rural areas.
“Therefore in order to safeguard the state from an uncontrollable surge in Covid-19 cases the containment measures will continue from June 21 until further order.
Meanwhile, the state on Saturday recorded nine new Covid-19 deaths.
Of these nine new fatalities, three were recorded in East Khasi Hills and East Jaintia Hills, Ri-Bhoi, South West Garo Hills, West Garo Hills, West Jaintia Hills and West Khasi Hills recorded one death each.
The state also recorded 650 new cases and 431 recovered from the virus.
With the latest figures, the state now has a total of 771 deaths, 4819 total active cases and so far 38792 have recovered from the virus.
