Shillong, Mar 18: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Wednesday held a video conference with Deputy Commissioners and Medical Officers of all districts to take stock of preparations undertaken so as to be able to contain COVID 19 in case of an outbreak.
The meeting was also attended by Health and Family Minister Alexander Laloo Hek, Home Minister Lakhmen Rymbui and Food & Civil Supplies Minister James Sangma.
At the meeting via video conference, the Chief Minister said that the situation in the world and other parts of the country is alarming and there is a need to be serious but without creating panic and discomfort to the people and to protect and contain the situation.
He also stressed the importance of the participation of the local headmen and the community to monitor the situation in the state, and added that the next fifteen days are going to be very crucial.
The meeting also discussed mandatory screening and monitoring of people who come from outside the country and other parts of the country.
Other measures discussed were setting up of isolation wards, medical volunteers, stock of essential commodities, testing centres, the logistics and setting up of control rooms at district and state level.
The meeting also stressed on the need to disseminate awareness of hand hygiene, respiratory etiquette and social distancing.
