COVID-19: Meghalaya CM says all family members of 12th patient tested negative

Shillong, Apr 21: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, on Tuesday, informed that all the family members of the 12th patient, who tested positive for COVID-19 in the state, have been tested. He revealed that all the 7 family members were tested through rapid test kits and their samples came out negative.

“A rapid antibody test was conducted today of all the seven members of the family members of the 12th patient. I would like to inform all of you that all the seven family members of the person was tested positive on the 20th April, their results have come out negative,” he said.

He also informed that the 12th patient, which is the 11th active patient who tested positive for COVID-19 on 20th April, is a close family friend of the family of the index case.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister also informed that a total of 933 samples have been tested out of which 821 have come out negative. “As of now, we have 11 active cases in the state and total number of test results awaited is 100,” he said, adding that all the 11 patients are stable.

On the issue regarding suggestions to make the names of all patients who tested positive public, he said, “I would like to state here that it would be incorrect on the part of the government to give out the names and I would like to say that we must respect the privacy of the patients.”

The Chief Minister assured that the government is “acting very fast, immediately as we come to know about the information, contact tracing is being done and the testing is done immediately of the family contacts or secondary contacts if necessary.”
