Shillong, May 9: Meghalaya on Sunday witnessed the worst day since the pandemic started recording 18 COVID-19 fatalities.
Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War informed that East Khasi Hills recorded 14 deaths, West Jaiñtia Hills district three and West Garo Hills one.
Dr. War also informed that the state witnessed 418 new infections taking the total number of active cases to 2899.
The Director of Health Services also informed that the state recorded 179 recovered cases taking the total number of recoveries to 16593.
Of the 418 new cases East Khasi Hills recorded 275, West Garo Hils 57, East Jaiñtia Hills 26, Ri-Bhoi 11, East Garo Hills nine, South Garo Hills six, North Garo Hills and West Khasi Hills five and South West Garo Hills four.
Of the 2899 active cases East Khasi Hills the worst affected district has 1723, Ri- Bhoi 353, West Garo Hills 234, 353, West Garo Hills 234, Weat Khasi Hills 120, East Jaiñtia Hills 118, Weat Jaiñtia Hills 113, South West Garo Hills 78, East Garo Hills 53, South Garo Hills 50, North Garo Hills 36 and 50, North Garo Hills 36 and South West Khasi Hills 21.
The total number of persons tested for the virus till date is 4,86,058 out of which 4,66,338 tested negative and 19720 are confirmed cases.
