COVID-19: Meghalaya tests 185 samples, 161 from EKH, 24 from Nongpoh

Shillong, Apr 15: Meghalaya Commissioner & Secretary of Health and Family Welfare Sampath Kumar revealed that the total number of samples collected since the detection of the first COVID-19 positive case stands at 185. Out of this, 161 are from East Khasi Hills and 24 from Nongpoh.

He also revealed that 68 samples were tested in the first batch out of which 6 tested positive. This includes, 3 female , 2 male and 1 child. 6 other samples have been sent for reconfirmation.

“The results of the other samples are awaited from NEIGHRIMS, GMC, Guwahati and Barpeta Medical College. Some of the samples had to be sent to Guwahati and Barpeta due to urgency of the matter and limited testing capacity of the testing facility in NEIGHRIMS,” he said.

Earlier, the Chief Minister informed that all the persons tested positive for COVID-19 were family members and helpers of the late Dr John Sailo.

The Chief Minister also informed through a tweet that the government is currently sanitising areas near Bethany Hospital, particularly Nongrim Hills in Shillong.
