Shillong, Apr 3: Meghalaya on Saturday witnessed a surge in COVID-19 cases with 24 new cases recorded. Health authorities informed that all the new cases were recorded in East Khasi Hills district.
With this the total number of active cases in the State has gone up to 88, with East Khasi Hills district recording 58 – armed forces/para military forces – six and others 52.
West Garo Hills district has 23 active cases, Ri-Bhoi six and West Khasi Hills – one.
The State did not record any recoveries on Saturday, with the total recovered cases remained static at 13868.
Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War informed that the total persons tested for the virus till date is 4,07,216 out of which 3,93,110 turned out to be negative and 14106 are confirmed cases.
Dr. War also informed that till Saturday evening, a total of 1,21,270 citizens of Meghalaya have taken the Covishield vaccine out of which a total of 34,433 persons have been administered both doses so far.
Giving the break up category-wise, the Director of Health Services informed that 22,465 health care workers have been vaccinated out of which 15,166 have received their second dose.
He also said that 32,860 frontline workers have received their first dose of the Covishield vaccine out of which 18,390 have taken their second dose.
Meanwhile, Dr. War also informed that the total general public vaccinated till date is 31,512 with the first dose of which 877 received their second dose.
