COVID-19: Meghalaya witnesses worst day with 11 fatalities 

Shillong, May 8: Meghalaya on Saturday witnessed the worst day with 11 recorded deaths all in East Khasi Hills district since COVID-19 hit the State more than one year back.

With this the total number of fatalities in the State has gone up to 210.

Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War informed that the state also recorded 375 new infections taking the number of active cases to 2678.

East Khasi Hills district recording the most with 210, Ri-Bhoi district with 73, South West Garo Hills district 32, West Jaintia Hills 18, West Garo Hills and West Khasi Hills  12 each, East Jaintia Hills 11, North Garo Hills four and South West Khasi Hills one.

The state also recorded 152 recovered cases taking the total number to 16414.

Of the active cases, East Khasi Hills has 1583, Ri-Bhoi 352, West Garo Hills 184, West Jaintia Hills 119, West Khasi Hills 117, East Jaintia Hills 100, South West Garo Hills 74, South Garo Hills 48, East Garo Hills 46, North Garo Hills 31 and South West Khasi Hills 24.

Dr. War also informed that the total persons tested for the virus till date is 4,83,733 out of which 4,64,431 were negative and 19302 were confirmed cases.
