COVID 19: Nation on 21-day lockdown, essential commodities, meds will be available

New Delhi/Shillong, Mar 24: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced that there the nation will undergo a lockdown for 21 days starting today midnight. He said that the step was necessary to save the country.
Addressing citizens through a televised broadcast, the Prime Minister said if we do not manage the national lockdown for 21 days then “we will be pushed back 21 years.”
The Prime Minister stated that all basic necessities and commodities will be made available to the public by state governments and that there was no need to panic.
“We are taking all steps to ensure continuous essential supplies. It is a fact that this unfortunate phase has brought a lot of difficulties for the poor. But the central government, state government’s social and civil society are working to reduce the difficulties for the poor,” he said.
He added that the decision was taken on the advice of the WHO, the medical and scientific institutes and health experts.
“I am confident that every citizen in this time of crisis will follow the directions of the government and the local administration. 21 days of lockdown is a long time but this is important for your safety and the safety of your family,” he said.
He also revealed that Rs 15,000 crore has been allotted by the centre to develop the country’s healthcare and make it efficient in order to deal with COVID-19
Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement of a nation-wide 21-day lock down, the Chief Secretary of Meghalaya, M.S Rao informed that the whole state of Meghalaya has been placed under curfew till 6 AM of March 28th, 2020.
All citizens are now mandated to stay indoors in accordance with curfew orders. Meanwhile, process of delivery of essential commodities will be put in place and notified on March 26th, 2020.
Residents have been advised to call 108 in case of emergency relating to COVID 19 and for other emergencies, it has been advised to call the Deputy Commissioner’s Office Control room.
