Shillong, April 1: A day after a youth from Shillong committed suicide in Agra allegedly due to the nation-wide lockdown over the outbreak of COVID-19, East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner said that a team of psychosocial care providers and counselors have been set up to provide counseling to people who are in need of psychosocial care.
East Khasi Hills DC Matsiewdor War Nongbri informed that psychosocial care and support will be extended to victims of the pandemic and their care givers. This includes their family members who may exhibit symptoms of stress and mental trauma.
The psychosocial care and support will also be extended to distressed persons who have been recently been exposed to a serious crisis event and in need of psychosocial support.
Support will be extended to any person exhibiting symptoms of stress, overwhelmed with emotions such as sadness, depression or anxiety, or wanting to harm others, or related symptoms on account of events associated with COVID-19.
