Shillong, Jul 27: The Labour department has sought the help of Thma U Rangli Juki (TUR) to try and identify those who have not received the cash announced by the state government for the three weeks period of the national lockdown due to Covid-19 in 2020.
“I requested the NGO to facilitate the identification for welfare of the beneficiaries,” Principal Secretary Labour Department, GHP Raju said.
Raju also appealed to those beneficiaries who have applied for the Chief Minister’s Relief Against Wage Loss (CRAWL) scheme but yet to receive it to come forward and claim.
According to him, the department is short of manpower since many are having Covid duty and urged the beneficiaries to go to the nearest labour offices in the areas and prove their credentials.
Clarifying on allegations of scam in the scheme, Raju said that amount is sent only through RTGS to the beneficiaries and there are no cash transactions.
“If there is any cash transaction, there may be mismatch or mishandling of cash,” Raju said.
The Principal Secretary said that out of the 1.81 lakh beneficiaries , 1, 44, 982 claimants have received Rs. 2100. The remaining did not receive because of issues of names is not tallying with the account holder’s name and the IFSC Code is not tallying with the information given by the beneficiaries.
Raju said that in April this year, the Labour department with the help of NIC, again started verifying the names and addresses of those who did not receive the amount.
“We re-sent 18, 148 names after verification to the banks for depositing the amount, out of these the banks could clear only 2961, the remaining 15, 187 returned with the same observation,” he added.
He also informed that the protesting member of the TUR has been invited for talks on Wednesday.
“I will also be meeting with officials of the various banks on Wednesday to discuss the difficulties and delay in transferring the amount,” Raju said.
