SHILLONG, Aug 19: In a sudden move, the East Khasi Hills district administration on Wednesday morning ordered the closure of shops and business establishments in certain parts of Khyndailad (Police Bazar) and Motphran.
In the order, East Khasi Hills, Deputy Commissioner, Matsiewdor War Nongbri, said that all norms of social distancing, hand hygiene and wearing of masks are being flouted in Motphran area till Bimola Point, Motphran area to Stand Jeep and MUDA Parking Lot (Upper Level) at Garikhana in total violation of prohibitory order of the administration.
The Deputy Commissioner also stated that protocols and prohibitory orders are also being flouted in Police Bazar (From Khyndailad via Gold Cinema upto Umsohsun road junction) and G. S. Road (From Shani Mandir till Bimola Point).
“Therefore it is necessary to declare that all shops and business establishments should remain closed until further orders,” Nongbri said in the order.
The Deputy Commissioner also said that any violation of this order shall entail prosecution under the penal provision of Disaster Management Act, 2005 and IPC.
Meanwhile, the state on Wednesday morning recorded 49 new cases taking the total active ones to 806.
Out of the 49 new cases East Khasi Hills recorded 47 of these – Border Security Force (BSF) – others 30 and North Garo Hills – two.
The state also recorded nine cases with East Khasi Hills recording one case and Ri-Bhoi eight.
The district-wise break – up of the cases are East Khasi Hills – BSF – 97, armed forces – 77 and others – 318, West Khasi Hills – three, South West Khasi Hills – one, Ri-Bhoi – 95, West Jaintia Hills – four, East Jaintia Hills – six, West Garo Hills – 189, South West Garo Hills – four, South Garo Hills – two and North Garo Hills – 10.
