SHILLONG, Aug 12: The East Khasi Hills police in its biggest ever haul so far recovered 930 grams of heroin from a woman.
The street value of the heroin is worth around Rs 4 to 4.5 crore.
The drugs was seized from a night super bus coming from at Mawryngkneng on the intervening night of August 10 and 11.
According to East Khasi Hill, Superintendent of Police, Claudia Lyngwa, the drugs was recovered from a special chamber concealed inside the luggage cabin of the night super.
SDPO Sardar, Jagpal Singh Dhanoa who is in charge of the Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) said that they recovered the drugs stuffed in 80 soap boxes from three bags.
In this connection a woman and a juvenile from Manipur was apprehended.
The woman has been identified as Veineithem Haokip of Churachandpur district.
The juvenile has been sent to a children’s home.
Lyngwa said that the immaculately designed compartment which were three in numbers points to the fact that there is a proper syndicate of smuggling items into the state.
The SP said that the bus was designed to accommodate secret cabinets to conceal smuggled goods and there may be other buses who may have similar compartments.
