Shillong, Jun 10: Congress Lok Sabha, Member of Parliament (MP), Vincent H. Pala has urged, state Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma to fast track the recruitment process for vacant positions of newly approved 7th and 8th Battalions Of Meghalaya Police.
In a letter to Sangma, the Lok Sabha MP stated that there is alarming rise in the rate of unemployment in Meghalaya.
According to Pala as per the CMIE report the unemployment rate in the state is about 13 percent which is the highest ever in the history of Meghalaya.
“Every year the Colleges and Universities are producing educated youths who do not have adequate opportunities of employment,” he added.
The Congress MP said that in addition, approximately 0.2 million youths of the state who were studying or working in other parts of India have returned.
“Although some who were working outside have returned and re-joined their previous employment, there are many who were compelled to stay back as their employers have stated their inability to pay salaries,” he added.
