Shillong, May 6: The opposition Congress Members of District Council (MDCs) in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) has urged the ruling dispensation to resolve the imbroglio in the council.
In a letter to Benedic R Marak, CEM of the GHADC, the Congress MDCs stated that alternative ways and means should be found out to clear the long pending dues of the
employees of the council as soon as possible.
“It is not only the employees of GHADC office who are suffering but due to the Council administration office remaining defunct, business houses, citizens
and Garo Hills as a whole is facing the brunt,” the opposition MDCs said.
They said that urgent steps needs to be taken to ensure the restart and smooth functioning of the GHADC office and alleviate the problems of the people of Garo Hills.
It may be mentioned that after five months of strike by the employees of the GHADC, the new Executive Committee on Wednesday issued an ultimatum to the protestors to return to duty within three days.
The employees are protesting over non payment of over 30 months’ salaries.
