SHILLONG, Feb 21: Shillong police on Friday seized over 10 kg of suspected Amphetamine W.Y (Yaba) drugs from Mawiongrim viewpoint. Five persons involved in transporting the drug were arrested from the spot.
According to East Khasi Hills SP, Claudia Lyngwa information was received about a tourist vehicle bearing registration No AS 01 LC 4807 – travelling from Guwahati to Shillong – was being used to transport contraband drugs.
Reacting on the input, a joint operation was carried out by a team of ANTF and Mawlai Police and the vehicle was intercepted at Mawiongrim viewpoint.
On searching the vehicle police recovered 10.174 kg of suspected Yaba drugs on the luggage of one Jiten Wairokpam Singh.
Four others Akoijam Subhachandra Singh, Samphangso Shinglai, Nganba Wairokpham Chenglei and Nengneichong Lhanglal were arrested along with Jiten. All the accused persons are residents of Manipur’s Thoubal and Ukhrul Districts.
A case has been registered at Mawlai Police Station under sections 29/21 © of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) Act.
