Shillong, Mar 29: Five persons were killed on Monday when they got stuck inside a multi storey well even as two were rescued. Police informed that the incident occurred in Mihmyntdu, Jowai, West Jaintia Hills district.
According to the Fire Service Department, the State Fire Control received information from Jowai fire station that there was a special rescue call at 2:37 pm in Mihmyntdu village.
Initially it was reported that three persons drowned, Jowai fire station rushed to the spot located 500 meters behind Soil office in Jowai. They discovered that a multi storey well (approx 35m deep) was being constructed.
The Fire Service authorities said, “The labourers were stuck inside after using a pump to draw water, probably because of the fumes of the pump they fell unconscious.”
The team also managed to rescue two people who were at the top level, one person was fine the other was unconscious and he was rushed to the hospital.
