Tura, Apr 3: Meghalaya police on Tuesday evening arrested four persons on charges of demanding free petrol from a pump owner.
According to police, the four on Tuesday afternoon came to SC Das Petrol Pump at Hawakhana, Tura owned by Surojit Das.
According to police, the four persons came to the Petrol Pump and asked for petrol in a five litre can.
They claimed themselves to be members of an NGO Jana-Jagaran & Welfare Association of Nizarapar, Chandmari, Kamrup Assam.
“They claimed themselves to be authorised by Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and PD Department government of India, to verify short delivery and adulteration of petrol and diesel in Garo Hills region,” police said.
Police have booked them under Section 110 of Meghalaya Police Act for disturbance of public peace and tranquility.
The four have been identified as – Troilen Deka, Rahul Chowdary, Kanak Baishya and Pitus R. Marak.
