Nongstoin, Apr 17: Four people have been arrested for erecting an arch to welcome the local representative for inspection of an approach road to the Chongadare waterfalls in West Khasi Hills by Assam police.
The four people identified as Porno A. Marak, Birlman Marak, Portis Sangma and Albert Marak were arrested from Huwapara village near Malangkona on Monday, the 15th of April.
According to a headman of the village, the neighbouring police had raided the village on Monday evening after they had erected an arch since MLA of Rambrai-Jyrngam constituency, Kimfa Marbaniang was supposed to inspect the approach road to the waterfall.
It was informed that Marbaniang, who was invited for the event refused due to the model code of conduct which was still in place.
Local people informed that the Assam police arrested the four person on this basis.
The Assam police came to village and arrested the four people at around 3 pm on that particular day, local people said.
Meanwhile, local people also informed that the Assam police had also destroyed the arch and blocked the approach road with logs.
West Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police (SP), Bashan J Laloo informed that three people were released but Porno has not been released by Assam Police.
Laloo said, Porno was not released since there are other cases lodged against him under Boko Police station.
