Garo Hills affected by incessant rain

TURA, Jun 27: Many parts of Garo Hills region has been submerged after nearly 48 hours of incessant rains.

In West Garo Hills, Selsella Block was the most affected. Paddy fields were submerged under water.

The road connecting AMPT road at Rajabala was under water but now is slowly receding.

West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh, informed that currently assessment of the damaged caused is being done.

“There were some landslides in a few places but no loss of life was reported. In Selsella fields and roads were under water,” Singh said.

The Ganol River overflowed in many places and reached the level of the road in many places including Edenbari.

In East and South Garo Hills, the Simsang River was in spate and flowed close to the danger mark.

However by Thursday evening the water level had receded below the danger mark.

“Some trees fell though they have been cleared,” East Garo Hills, Deputy Commissioner, Swapnil Tembe said.

As per reports from South West Garo Hills, Deputy Commissioner, Ram Kumar confirmed that two villages near Garobadha were affected by the deluge and an assessment of damages caused was being made.

The least affected district in the region was North Garo Hills. Some places in Resubelpara however were underwater though that was caused mainly by a blocked hume pipe, it was informed.
