SHILLONG, Jun 12: The Ranikor Block Congress Committee was dissolved on Tuesday after the National People’s Party (NPP) led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government promised to upgrade Ranikor to a civil sub-division in South West Khasi Hills.
It may be mentioned that the MDA government led by Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday visited Ranikor constituency along with his cabinet colleagues and made this announcement.
Conrad made the assurance to upgrade Ranikor to a civil sub-division during a function on Tuesday.
According to Congress leaders of Ranikor constituency, they have urged Martin M Danggo to resign as an MLA as well as from the party in the next seven days.
“We demand that the MLA (Danggo) whom we have been helping him win subsequent elections to resign in seven days and join us,” the Congress leaders from Ranikor said.
“Soon after he will join the NPP and seek re-election,” the former Congress leaders from Ranikor said.
It may be mentioned talks of the Congress leader who had represented the constituency since 1993 started on May 25 after a delegation of local Congress leaders, led by Danggo, met the chief minister, Conrad K Sangma and submitted a memorandum demanding a civil sub-division.
Speaking at the function, Danggo said that he will resign on the day the foundation stone for Ranikor civil sub-division will be laid.
“I will have to follow the voice of the people and my leaders in the constituency who wants me to resign as an MLA,” he said.
During the meeting, the Congress block unit was dissolved by the President and General Secretary of the Block Congress unit.
The Congress flag was put down by the Congress President and General Secretary, who resigned to join the National People’s Party and hoisted the National People’s Party flag before a large gathering, who withstood rains to be part of the history event, wherein large number of Congress supporters and party workers have decided to join the National People’s Party.
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, Home Minister James K. Sangma, C&RD Minister Snaiwbhalang Dhar, NPP legislator from Nongstoin Macmillian Byrsat and HSPDP MLA from Mawkyrwat, Renikton L Tongkhar, Marcuise Marak, Rowell Lyngdoh, Ex-MLA Mawkyrwat, Deputy Speaker Timothy D Shira were also present.
