SHILLONG, Apr 17: State Agriculture Minister, Banteidor Lyngdoh said that the state government has identified two government regulated markets for farmers to sell their produce.
According to Lyngdoh, these two markets are 5th Mile near Sangmein which belongs to Marketing Board of the Agriculture department and the Regulated Market at Mawiong.
The state Agriculture Minister also informed that the department will look into how the farmers will transport these crops into these markets in view of the nationwide lockdown.
He also urged the wholesalers and others who buy the produce from the farmers to not squeeze the rates so that in this prevailing situation the farmers get the right prices.
He said that these produced should be sold at controlled prices so that the vegetables from the state can compete with those that come from Assam.
He also said that he had spoken to the Chief Minister that in this prevailing situation produces coming from Assam should not be allowed into the state.
“If we can utilise the produces from the state we sell and buy among ourselves it will be self sufficient for us,” Lyngdoh said.
