Govt optimistic to commission Ganol power project by May 2022

Shillong, Jan 14: State Power Minister, James Sangma on Thursday said that the government was optimistic that the Ganol Hydro Power Project will be commissioned by May 2022.

Sangma said that the work is being monitored constantly by the high powered committee which is chaired by the Chief Secretary, M.S. Rao.

According to the state Power Minister, once the project is complete it will address a lot of issues with regards to the problem of power in Garo Hills region.

“So we are therefore committed to see that the project is completed,” Sangma said.

He also informed that the government will be taking a loan under Atma Nirbhar, of Rs. 1345 crore to pay the dues of the power generating companies.

“By that we expect that we will be able to write off all our liabilities, to the generating companies,” Sangma said.
