Govt to examine demand of new districts from all aspects: CM

Shillong, Dec 8: The new district committee on Tuesday requested the state government to upgrade Mairang Civil Sub Division into a new district.

The new district committee met Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma in presence of assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh and Water Resources minister H. Brolding Nongsiej at the old assembly block in Khyndailad.

Mairang civil sub-division is the oldest sub-division in Meghalaya.

Speaking to reporters after a meeting, the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said, “There are areas demanding for blocks, subdivisions and districts. The government is examining these proposals in a positive manner because we need to ensure that administration gets closer to people.”

The chief minister said that the government has to examine the demands since there are financial challenges from all aspects.

He also added that administrative logistical involvement will go into it and to decide.

Moreover, the chief minister stated that approach in policy has always been to get administration closer to the people, it is very important for us to ensure that services are provided to the last mile also so our efforts are to ensure that the administration and entire setup in the grass root must improve.
