SHILLONG, Mar 11: Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma on Monday told the Meghalaya Assembly that a committee has been constituted to introduce security features in the transport challan in time bound manner.
“The government has initiated steps to introduce security features in transport challans like QR Code, bar code, holograms with hand held taggant detector used for product authontification and verification, and weight-in-motion bridge to prevent misuse of challans and prevent fake circulation of fake challans and over-loading,” Conrad said.
He was replying to a call-attention-motion brought by Congress MLA from Mawlai, Process T Sawkmie.
The Chief Minister also said that the government has taken serious view on issue of fake challan/forged challan.
Conrad informed the Meghalaya Assembly that the Mines Royalty Inspectors in charge of respective check gate have filed complaints and lodged FIRs whenever fake challans were detected.
“The governnent is committed to pursue all the cases so far registered in this matter and speed up the investigation to ensure that culprits are brought to book,” he said.
The Chief Minister also said that the government is serious on the issue of fake challans, multiple use of challans and illegal sale of challans which would have a serious effect on the revenue generation of the state.
“The government will shortly come out with measures including streamlining administrative process and procedures currently in place for issuance of MTC in order to prevent any misuse of challans,” Conrad said.
