Heavy rains predicted in next fews days in Meghalaya

SHILLONG, Jul 9: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall which is likely to occur at isolated places in the State on July 11 and 12 and heavy to heavy rainfall with extremely heavy falls likely to occur on the July 10 and 13.

Meanwhile, the Additional Deputy Commissioner and CEO DDMA, East Khasi Hills district has also issued advisory to the public.

According to the Additional Deputy Commissioner, people are advised to take extra care during heavy rainfall as there is likelihood of flash flood, especially in areas near the rivers and streams.

District authorities has also warned that people are not to venture near the waters or walk through moving water and to stay away from streams, drains and culverts.
“People are advised not to drive through flooded areas and to stay away from electric poles or power lines to avoid electrocution,” the East Khasi Hills district administration said.

Students have also been advised not to cross rivers and streams during heavy rain and tourists visiting the tourist spots should not venture into streams, rivers and waterfalls.

It may be mentioned that, according to the IMD between June 1 and July 8, the deficit in rainfall has been 37 percent in Meghalaya.

Cherrapunjee recorded 165.2 mm of rainfall on July 8.
