High-level meeting held between Meghalaya, Assam Chief Secretaries on Langpih incident

SHILLONG, Feb 20: The Chief Secretary of Meghalaya held a high-level discussion with the Assam Chief Secretary at Guwahati on Thursday, official said.

The meeting took place as steps to diffuse a boundary dispute that occurred at Umwali village near Langpih in West Khasi hills on Wednesday.

The dispute happened when villagers from Meghalaya opposed a border outpost proposed by Assam Police.

West khasi hills superintendent of police, Bashanbor J Laloo informed that situation is normal in the area now as a high level discussion was held at the Chief Secretary level.

He also said that the villagers opposed construction of the outpost on a piece of land owned by a villager, Kwiskelda Lyngdoh.

“For the time being, the matter has been resolved,” he informed.

According to Laloo, a precautionary measure a minimum presence of force is being deployed in the area so that the situation doesn’t go out of hand.
