HNLC general secretary surrenders before Meghalaya Dy CM

Shillong, Oct. 18: Hynñiewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) general secretary, Cheristerfield Thangkhiew on Thursday surrendered before the government of Meghalaya.
Thangkhiew surrendered at around 3 pm before the Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Prestone Tynsong.
The HNLC general secretary is one among the most wanted militant for his involvement in more than two-dozen cases of killings and kidnappings.
Thangkhiew a founder member of HNLC has been waging war against the state government and been demanding for a separate Khasiland or Hynniewtrep land.
Welcoming Thangkhiew for his decision to give up arms and to joined the mainstreams, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said the surrender will bring back peace in Meghalaya.
