Independent enquiry will uncover the truth of illegal coal mining: Mukul Sangma

Shillong, Jun 19: Meghalaya leader of opposition, Dr. Mukul Sangma on Saturday said that only an independent enquiry without the interference of the state government can uncover the illegalities surrounding coal mining and transportation.

“Unless there is an independent enquiry without the control of the state government this truth cannot be uncovered,” Dr. Sangma said.

According to him circumstantial evidence is there which will prove the existence of illegal coal mining and transportation.

“It will not be difficult to prove beyond doubt the illegalities,” Dr. Sangma said.

He said that the illegalities in coal goes beyond the purview of the state.

The leader of opposition also said that the government always goes into denial mode if there are allegations of illegal coal mining and transportation even as he said that this was part of a well scripted modus operandi.

“It is more like a drama and the lines can’t be spoken other than that,” Dr. Sangma said.

He also said that when others are focussed in fighting the pandemic but the government is into something else.
