SHILLONG, Mar 31: The independent probe on the murderous attack on RTI activist Agnes Kharshiing and her colleague Amita Sangma approved by the Meghalaya government on November 26 last year is yet to take off with members yet to be appointed.
Kharshiing, who is also the president of Civil Society Women’s Organisation, and Amita were brutally assaulted by a group of people after the activist lodged a complaint on illegal mining and transportation of coal in the state on November 8, 2018 at Tuber Sohshrieh area in East Jaintia Hills district.
Meghalaya Home Minister James K Sangma had then said the terms of reference of the inquiry including the person who will head the inquiry and duration to complete the probe would be worked out by the law department.
But it has been five months and nothing has moved.
When contacted, Kharshiing said, “I knew there would be no probe.”
The activist also said that last year she and the mother of police officer Late PJ Marbaniang met the Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma, there was no action taken.
“…as SI PJ Marbaniang was murdered after he detained 32 Coal truck, ” she alleged.
