SHILLONG, Apr 26: The Three Day District Level Chief Minister’s Inter School Athletic Meet 2018 kick started at Dikki Bandi Stadium, Dakopgre, Tura on April 25.
The annual event is organised by the District Sports Office, West Garo Hills Tura.
Addressing the gathering of athletes, coaches and teachers of different schools of the town, Assistant Director and Incharge District Sport Office, Tura Jasper P Marak highlighted the importance of sporting activities and encourage the budding athletes to excel in the field of their interest.
Marak urged the participants to compete with a spirit of sportsmanship and informed that the winners of the events can as well participate in the state and in the national level competitions.
He further informed that about 25 schools of the town comprising of Don Bosco Secondary School, Tura Public School, Aeroville Secondary School, Government Girls Secondary School, Burny Hills Secondary School, to name a few are participating in the meet where about 800 athletes would be taking part in the different track and field events which would be conducted during this three day event.
The events consists of Shot Put, Discuss Throw, High Jump, Long Jump, Javelin Throw, 100 M, 200 M, 400 M, 600 M, 800 M, 1500 M and 3000 M race which have been divided into three categories that is, under 14, 16 and 18 years of age for both boys and girls.
