KSU asks govt to ensure transparency in job recruitment

SHILLONG, Jul 17: The issue of favouritism and nepotism during recruitment in the government sector found echo during the commemoration of the 183rd death anniversary of Khasi chief, U Tirot Sing Syiem.

Addressing a gathering to commemorate the death anniversary of the legendary leader, president of the KSU Lambokstar Marngar urged the state government to put an end to ensure transparency in the job recruitment especially by the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC).

“The state can only grow if the right and deserving people are in the right job, and the only way to get efficient and competent employees is through a transparent recruitment process,” Marngar said.

The KSU president also asked the state government to wake from its slumber and address this issue by ensuring that job recruitment is based only on merits.

“We often hear that only those who have money and are closed to ministers could get job appointments,” he said.

Meanwhile, Urban Affiars Minister and former KSU leader, Hamletson Dohling said that the Meghalaya government intends to build statues of heroic leaders from the state who revolted against the British rule.

Dohling informed that the government is contemplating to acquire spaces for erecting statues of such heroes from the Khasi, Jaiñtia and Garo communities who defied the British when they tried to establish their rule over this region.

“I will initiate this move and discuss with colleague in the Cabinet. As a community, we need to respect our leaders, and pass on the spirit to our younger generations so that they know how to respect and pay tribute to our legendary leaders,” Dohling said.
