KSU observes Bull Lyngdoh’s 24th death anniversary

SHILLONG, Dec 7: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) on Friday observed the 24th death anniversary of its former president Bull N Lyngdoh.

At the gathering to commemorate the late student union chief’s death anniversary, members of KSU from different units and the family members of late Lyngdoh were present on the occasion.

Hamletson Dohling, former KSU leader and state Urban Affairs Minister, said that the student union has had a long journey but the struggle to achieve the objectives is still on.

“The border dispute both inter-state and international is still lingering,” Dohling said.

According to him, the issue of border dispute is not any each task to find solution but the government he is in will pursue the matter so that it does not stagnate.

On the issue of influx, Dohling informed that the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government was taking steps to set up the Entry/Exit points.

“Our government share the same concerns for the indigenous people of the state,” the former KSU leader and Urban Affairs Minister said.

Meanwhile, KSU general secretary, Donald V Thabah said that it was Bull Lyngdoh who had first opposed the Railway line into the state in 1989.

According to Thabah people during that time did not understand that the introduction of Railways in the state will encourage influx.

“Development (through railways) was not meant for the indigenous people of the state,” Thabah added.

He pointed out that other states in the region like Tripura and Assam are battling against unabated influx.

On the issue of Inner Line Permit (ILP), the KSU general secretary said that the union has not given up their demand for ILP in Meghalaya.

“We know that if ILP has to be implemented then it will be a long process. Therefore in the meantime we have agreed on the entry/exit points as wanted by the state government,” Thabah said.

Earlier, wreaths were laid at the bust of Lyngdoh near Shillong Law College Dhankheti.
