Tura, April 8: Late Jonathone N Sangma’s wife, Krenilla R Marak, filed her nomination from the Williamnagar seat on an NCP ticket today beginning what is expected to be an engrossing contest between 9 contestants from the assembly segment.
Polls to the Williamnagar seat were postponed following the murder of Jonathone N Sangma by suspected militants of the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) through an IED blast that also took the lives of 4 more of his supporters. Williamnagar will now go to polls on April 27 with counting to be held on April 1.
A total of 9 contestants are vying to represent the people of Williamnagar which includes two former MLAs, Deborah Marak of the Congress and Marcuise Marak of the NPP. Further the BJP will be represented by SR Marak, the UDP by Mahamsing M Sangma, NCP by Krenilla followed by Lahat Marak, Siljohn Marak, Jaan Arengh amongst others.
The nomination of Krenilla will now move into scrutiny with the last date of withdrawal being April 13.
