Lok Sabha Elections: 71.41 pc electorates exercise their franchise in Meghalaya

SHILLONG, Apr 12: The total voter turnout for the election to the two Meghalaya Parliamentary seats stood at 71.41 percent even the by-poll for the Selsella seat saw a voter turnout of 82 percent.

The state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Fredrick Roy Kharkongor said that the final percentage of voting in Meghalaya Lok Sabha Polls 2019 is 71.41% bettering 68% in 2014 and 63% in 2009.

“This is the final figure,” Kharkongor said.

There are 3167 polling stations all over the state. A total of 2053 polling stations are in the Shillong Lok Sabha seat and 1114 is in the Tura Parliamentary seat.

According to the CEO, Shillong parliamentary seat registered 65.49 percent while Tura Lok Sabha seat clocked a healthy 81.30 percent.

In 2014, the voter turnout in the state was around 68 per cent.
