Massive crowd attends NPP election rally in Phulbari

Shillong, Mar 28: A massive crowd turned up at Phulbari at an election rally for Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) which was attended by Chief Minister and National People’s Party (NPP), national president Conrad K Sangma.

Over 10 thousand plus people were present at a playground near Phulbari Market, where Late Manirul Islam Sarkar, former cabinet minister of Meghalaya’s son Tarif Ibrahim Sarkar is contesting from Shyamnagar GHADC constituency.

Speaking at the rally, the Chief Minister told the massive gathering that the ensuing election is a test for the government, whether it has been able to meet the expectations of the people and the promises made in the 2018 general election.

Sangma said that GHADC election is very important as people are getting the opportunity to give their feedback on the performance of the ruling govt.

The Chief Minister also told the gathering that the NPP led government had managed to restore peace in Garo Hills, which had enabled the government to consistently work for inclusive growth and development in the State.   

Speaking at the rally, various political and community leaders spoke at length on different interventions taken by the NPP led government.

Local MLA Esmatur Mominin praised the Chief Minister, for sanctioning various road projects in the plain belt area of West Garo Hills, including the ongoing Agia – Tikrikilla, Phulbari- Tura road.

The NPP candidate Tarif Ibrahim Sarkar promised to continue the legacy of his late father and to work for the overall development in the plain belt area.
