Shillong, Feb 15: In a face saving exercise, the United Democratic Party (UDP), which is a constituent of the National People’s Party (NPP) led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance coalition termed the load shedding resorted by its own government as “unprecedented”.
“The sudden announcement of load shedding in the state during this time of crisis when online communication is emphasised in all establishments especially in educational institutions is unprecedented,” UDP general secretary, Dr. Jemino Mawthoh said.
Dr. Mawthoh also claimed that the public at large are suffering and the loss in working hours is tremendous.
The UDP has also urged the government to ensure uninterrupted power supply in the state and take appropriate measures to address the problems of the power sector.
“This has to be taken as top priority considering the potentiality that the state has in the power sector,” the UDP general secretary said.
It may be mentioned that the UDO has come under a lot of flak from the opposition as well as the citizens of the state for various issues.
The Congress has questioned the silence of the UDP and other regional parties over the issue of alleged illegalities in the coal sector, the flip-flop of the government over the implementation of Inner Line Permit and also the issue of hike in prices of fuel.
