Medical facilities in Moheshkhola, Gillagora and Khonjoy not functioning

SHILLONG, Feb 17: The United Achik Youth Federation (UAYF) has alleged that medical infrastructures in Ranikor constituency, South West Khasi Hills district are not functioning despite infrastructures available.

President of the UAYF Sanggra Marak, pointed out that at least three government run health care centres in Ranikor constituency – Moheshkhola dispensary, Gillagora sub-centre and the Khnojoy PHC are not functioning.

Marak pointed out that these centres are meant to serve the poor rural folks in need of medical care.

“The most backward and down trodden area under this constituency are Moheshkhola, Gillagora and Khonjoy in terms of medical service and facilities,” he said.

According to the UAYF president, there is a dispensary at Moheshkhola which was established way back in the 1980s but never had a single working day since its inception.

Marak alleged that one ANM (nurse in-charge) for Sibari in South Garo Hills was posted at the Moheshkhola dispensary to take care of all kinds of primary medical needs of the area.

“She is supposed to be present in the dispensary to give her full support to citizens during the time of need, but in a cunning and careless manner this irresponsible never attended her duty since she got appointed to this dispensary,” Marak alleged.

The UAYF president also alleged that the residents of Moheshkhola area go to Bangladesh in time of medical emergencies.

He also said that the Gillagora sub-centre which was built to provide medical services to residents living in an area not easily accessible, the building now lies in a dilapidated condition.

“There are no staff nurse and doctors are nowhere to be seen,” Marak alleges.

The UAYF president informed that in September 2018 authorities had inspected this infrastructure but till now nothing has started at this facility.

“The sub-centre lies like a ghost building,” Marak said.

Meanwhile, he also said that Khonjoy PHC was a result of fake promises made by politicians.

“The campus and other necessary facilities is already constructed,” the UAYF president said.

According to him, there were promises that this PHC will provide with best medical services to the residents of Khonjoy area but all these were fake promises since not a single doctors has been appointed till date.

Condemning the sorry state of affairs at these health infrastructures in the remote areas of the state, the UAYF has demanded for urgent intervention to solve the issues afflicting the three health facilities at Moheshkhola, Gillagora and Khonjoy.

Marak said that the UAYF had sent three memorandums to fix the problems but nothing has happened till date.

“The citizens of Moheshkhola, Gillagora and Khonjoy have become more alert and neglecting this area in terms of medical development shall no longer be tolerated,” Marak said.
