Meghalaya averaging 442 Covid-19 cases in last 7 days

Shillong, Jun 9: Meghalaya has been averaging 442 Covid-19 cases in the last  seven days, health authorities informed.

Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare department, Sampath Kumar also informed that the state’s positivity rate stands at 12.5 percent.

Kumar informed that in the last one week, the positivity rate in East Khasi Hills is 17 percent and West Jaintai Hills 30 percent.

The district wise distribution of the positivity rate are –  12 percent in East Garo Hills and 11 percent in South West Garo Hills, nine in Ri-Bhoi

 district, West Garo HIlls and South West Khasi Hills district, in East Jaintia Hills and South Garo Hills it’s eight, North Garo Hills and  West Khasi Hills its seven percent.

“If it is over 10 percent then it is still a matter of concern. The positivity rate should actually be below 10 percent,” Kumar said.

Meanwhile, in the last 24 hours, the state recorded 16 fresh Covid-19 fatalities.

East Khasi Hills recorded – nine, West Jaintia Hills five and West Garo Hills and North Garo Hills one each.

The state also recorded 448 fresh cases and 507 new recoveries.

With the latest figures, the fatalities due to Covid-19 has risen to 694, the active cases are 4849 and 34440 have recovered from the virus so far.
