Shillong, Feb 18: The Meghalaya unit of the BJP has said that it would discuss the issue of the long pending border dispute between Meghalaya and the neighbouring state with Assam Chief Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal.
“We are ready to offer Assam a “give and take policy” to solve long pending issue,” said state unit president Ernest Mawrie at the BJP office on Tuesday.
According to Mawrie, the Meghalaya BJP would play a proactive role to solve the border dispute with Assam.
The state unit president also said, “Before every elections most political parties in the state would promise to solve the issue if they come to power and when they are elected they forget. But now we (BJP) have decided to speak to the Assam government.”
Mawrie further stated that solving the border dispute is in the interest of both Meghalaya and Assam.
The Meghalaya unit BJP president also said that the it will be easier to discuss the issue with the Assam government since the BJP is in power in that state.
