Shillong, Jun 11: The Meghalaya government on Friday extended the lockdown in East Khasi Hills for another week starting June 14 till June 21.
In other districts the Deputy Commissioners have been empowered to decide as per the local situation.
Also, the Deputy Commissioners can decide to open up to 20 percent non essential shops this time.
“While continuing with the lockdown we also understand that peole’s livelihood are being affected a lot therefore, the cabinet has decided today that we will allow upto 20 percent of non essential commodities to be open in different areas of the state. But that will be decided by the deputy commissioners,” the Chief Minister said.
Meanwhile, Sangma visited Jowai, the district headquarters of West Jaintia Hills, on Friday to take stock of the current COVID-19 status in both West and East Jaiñtia Hills district.
The Chief Minister informed that the reason why they decided to come here is that in the last two-three days there have been seeing the increase in the positivity rate in these two districts specially in West Jaintia Hils district.
“As of today the positivity rate is 33 percent. The average state positivity rate as of today is 12.9 percent, so clearly it is almost three times more than the state average. Comparatively the East Jaintia Hills is below the state average but it is still high,” Sangma said.
