Meghalaya Police registers case against Assam news channel for “fake news”

Shillong, May 15: Meghalaya Police, on Friday, informed that a case has been registered against a news channel based in Assam. The channel had allegedly broadcasted a news claiming that a minister from the state had contracted COVID-19 and was keeping it a secret.

Assistant Inspector General of Police (A) G K Ïangrai, stated that the news is fake and a case has been registered against the channel.

In another incident, police clarified that comments on a post uploaded on social media, which claimed that only non-Khasi individuals were brought back from Rajasthan, were fake.

“ As mentioned in some of the comments in Social Media in the aforementioned post that only non-indigenous people were brought from Rajasthan is not true as the group was mixed consisting of Khasis, Garos and non-indigenous persons who were studying in Rajasthan. They were mostly students studying outside preparing for NEET Exams and the coaching institutes from Rajasthan only arranged for their travel,” Ïangrai stated.

Ïangrai warned against circulation information without verifying the authenticity of the content.
