Shillong, Apr 16: Meghalaya recorded the highest number of single day spike in COVID-19 cases this year with 121 fresh cases, even as one death was recorded on Friday.
With this the number of active cases has gone upto 565 and the total deaths to 152.
The person who died has been identified as Bron Narlong 36 years of Umklai, Nongpoh in Ri-Bhoi district.
He was diagnosed for COVID-19 on April 15 at Civil Hospital Nongpoh and was declared death on the same day at 11:30 am.
The cause of death has been recorded as COVID-19, acute respiratory failure with septic shock.
Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War informed that of the 121 cases, 80 were recorded in East Khasi Hills (Armed Force/Paramilitary Force –six, others – 74), West Jaintia Hills 26, East Jaintia Hills and Ri-Bhoi district five each, South West Khasi Hills and West Garo Hills two each and North Garo Hills one case.
Of the 80 new cases in East Khasi Hills, 29 are returnees and 22 are high risk cases.
Dr. War informed that East Khasi Hills district has the most number of active cases with 430 (Armed Forces/Para Military Forces 32, others 398), West Jaintia Hills district 84, Ri-Bhoi 25 (Armed Forces/Para Military Forces two, others 23), East Jaintia Hills 11, West Garo Hills – seven (Armed Forces/Para Military Forces one, others six), West Khasi Hills four, South West Khasi Hills three and North Garo Hills one.
The state also recorded 12 recovered cases taking the total number to 13986.
Dr. War also informed that till date a total number of 1, 71, 270 persons have received the Covishield vaccine out of which 45, 438 received both the doses.
Meanwhile, the total persons tested till date is 4,31,805 out of which 4,17,102 tested negative and the total number of confirmed cases so far is 14703.
