SHILLONG, Aug 9: Meghalaya recorded 39 new COVID-19 cases and 67 recoveries on Sunday, the health authorities informed.
Out of the 39 cases, East Khasi Hills accounted for 18 of them (civilians 16 and armed forces two), Ri-Bhoi 20 (seven armed forces and civilians 13) and East Jaintia Hills recorded one case.
The total number of active cases is now 566 with East Khasi Hills recording 419 of them (BSF 91, civilians 260 and armed forces 68), West Khasi Hills six, Ri-Bhoi 83, West Jaintia Hills 15, East Jaintia Hills six, West Garo Hills 31, South West Garo Hills, South Garo Hills and North Garo Hills two each.
Of the total 67 recoveries East Khasi Hills accounted for 52 of those (BSF 51 and one civilian), Ri-Bhoi two and East Jaintia Hills 13 taking the total to 490.
Meanwhile, Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman Warr informed that of the 16 civilians who tested positive in East Khasi Hills, six are contacts in North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), six are returnees, one tourist taxi driver and three are contacts of a positive person at Mawpat cluster.
In Ri-Bhoi district, of the 13 persons who tested positive one is an operator at CMJ, Breweries, Byrnihat and 12 are his contacts, while the lone positive case in East Jaintia Hills is that of a high risk contact of a positive person in Robert’s Hospital, Shillong.
Dr. Warr also informed that among the new cases recorded in NEIGRIHMS are of health workers like a Lower Division Assistant, staff nurse and a health worker of the state’s Health department who has contact with a positive case there.
