SHILLONG, Aug 29: Meghalaya on Saturday recorded, 43 new COVID-19 cases, with East Khasi Hills accounting for 26 such cases (25 others and one from armed and paramilitary forces), West Garo Hills recorded 15 new cases (seven armed and paramilitary forces, eight others) and South Garo Hills two cases.
Meghalaya also recorded 77 new recoveries on Saturday.
Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman Warr also informed that so far 12507 samples were taken through random testing throughout the state and 370 samples tested positive till August 28.
Dr. Warr said that the total active cases now stands at 1238.
The district wise break up of the active cases are – East Khasi Hills – 890 (268 armed and paramilitary forces, 622 others, West Garo Hills – 136 (78 armed and paramilitary forces, 58 others), East Garo Hills – 71, Ri-Bhoi – 52 (five armed and paramilitary forces, 47 others), West Khasi Hills – 44, East Jaintia Hills – 15, South Garo Hills – 13 (11 armed forces and two others), North Garo Hills – 12, South West Garo Hills – three and West Jaintia Hills – two.
Of the 77 new recovered cases, West Garo Hills accounted for 37 of those (28 armed forces and paramilitary forces, nine others), East Khasi Hills – 21 (17 armed and paramilitary forces, four others), Ri-Bhoi – 18 (two armed and paramilitary forces, 16 others) and North Garo Hills – one.
The state so far has a total of 1035 recovered cases.
Dr. Warr also informed that samples sent for testing till Saturday afternoon are 86, 214 out of which 83, 499 samples tested negative and the results of 432 are awaited.
The Director of Health Services also informed that till Saturday afternoon a total of 32, 009 have entered the state.
Dr. Warr also informed that in North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) there are 17 asymptomatic COVID-19 patients, four who are symptomatic level B and three with level C.
He also said that at present there are 36 containment houses or areas in East Khasi Hills.
