Meghalaya records another COVID-19 death toll standa at 63

SHILLONG, Oct 11: Meghalaya on Sunday recorded one more death due to COVID-19 taking the number to 63.

According to Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War, the deceased was a resident of South West Garo Hills district.

The deceased Samarjeet Gupta, 65 years, was a resident of Mahendraganj, Chapahati, PWD Colony.

He was admitted in Civil Hospital, Amapati on October 10 at 5.30 pm.

He tested positive for COVID-19 on the same day and expired on the same day itself at 6.20 pm.

“The cause of death was acute respiratory distress syndrome with COVID -19 with Bronchial Asthma with Hypertension,” the Director of Health Services informed.

Dr. War also informed that 139 new cases and 97 new recoveries were recorded on Sunday.

With this the total number of active cases in the state is 2478 and the total recovered cases stands at 5142.

Dr. War informed that out of the 139 new cases, East Khasi Hills recorded 74 (armed and paramilitary forces two, others 72), Ri-Bhoi 25, West Garo Hills 17, East Garo Hills nine, South West Khasi Hills five, South West Garo Hills four, West Jaintia Hills and West Khasi Hills two each and South Garo Hills one.

The district wise break up of the cases from the others category are – East Khasi Hills – high risk 41, health worker one, returnee three, Anjali cluster one, Bishnupur cluster one, Golf Links cluster one, Jail Road cluster one, Laban cluster five, Lapalang cluster one, Madanryting cluster one, Mawlai Mawroh cluster three, Nongmensong cluster one, Police Bazar cluster one, Pynthorumkhrah cluster five, Qualapatty cluster one and Wahingdoh cluster five.

Ri-Bhoi – high risk 23, health workers two, West Garo Hills – high risk 17, East Garo Hills – high risk seven, police personnel two, South West Khasi Hills – high risk cases five, South West Garo Hills – high risk four, West Jaintia Hills – high risk two,
West Khasi Hills – high risk one and police personnel one and South Garo Hills – high risk one.

The district wise break up of the new recovered cases are – East Khasi Hills 61,
Ri-Bhoi 13, West Garo Hills seven, South West Garo Hills seven, East Jaintia Hills six and West Jaintia Hills three.
