Meghalaya records two more COVID related deaths, toll rises to 106

SHILLONG, Nov 20: Meghalaya on Friday recorded another two more COVID-19 related death taking the toll to 106, health authorities informed.

Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War said that, the first death registered on Friday was that of, Limos S Majaw, 77 uera-old male from Pynthorbah, Shillong, East Khasi Hills district.

Dr. War informed that he tested positive for COVID on November 16 and was admitted to Dr. H Gordon Robert’s Hospital. He expired on November 19 at around 12:04 pm.

According to The Director of Health Services the cause of death was COVID-19 with acute respiratory distress syndrome with hypertension with hypothyroidism with moderate anaemia.

The second death recored on Friday was that of Dr. Paitbha Syngkon, 66 –year-old male of Panaliar Jowai, West Jaintia Hills district.

Dr. War informed that the deceased tested COVID-19 Positive on November 19 and was admitted in Woodland Hospital at 11 pm, he expired the same day at around 11:50 pm.

The cause of death was COVID-19 pneumonia with type 2 diabetes mellitus with hypertension with CAD.

Dr. War also informed that the State recorded, 173 new case and 84 persons recovered from the virus. With this the total number of active cases has climbed to 888 and the total number of recovered cases is now 10158.

Of the new cases – East Khasi Hills registered 97 cases (armed/paramilitary forces- five, others- 92), West Garo Hills 60, South Garo Hills eight, East Jaintia Hills four, East Garo Hills two, Ri- Bhoi one from the armed/paramilitary force, South West Garo Hills one from the armed/paramilitary force.

Of the 84 new recovered cases, Ri-Bhoi recorded 41, East Khasi Hills 19 (armed/paramilitary force- one, others- 18), East Jaintia Hills 10, South Garo Hills four and West Garo four each, South West Garo Hills three, SouthWest Khasi Hills, North Garo Hills and East Garo Hills one each.

Dr. War also informed that Of the 2,27,199 persons tested for COVID-19 infection, 2,16,047 have tested negative so far. Moreover, he said that 60,758 persons have entered the State from outside as on date.
